Laser Contour Control from WALTER – Aerospace Manufacturing and Design
WALTER, a brand of UNITED GRINDING, presents Laser contour checkingan innovative new non-contact option for tactile measurement in tool grinding and eroding machines.
The new blue laser, together with an intelligent measuring system, provides high-precision measurement of various tool parameters on cylindrical tools with a diameter of 1 to 52 mm. As it does not come into contact with the surface, the Laser contour verification prevents possible damage to cutting edges or measurement errors that may occur due to wear of the probe tip during tactile measurements.
Measurements are made directly in the analog laser beam over the entire contour of the tool, not just at specific points as with the touch or digital measurement method. Deviations can thus be compensated directly in the process. A short measuring time, including a cleaning time of approximately 16 seconds (depending on the type of tool) for diameter measurement, ensures increased productivity.
Optimized program sequences for cleaning and compensation can be programmed and adapted by the operator. The measuring system is integrated directly into the working area of the machine and can be set up if necessary. The blue laser beam used provides improved accuracy over conventional red laser, as blue lasers have a shorter wavelength, reducing diffraction effects and optimizing laser beam geometry.
