Jennifer Macks tapped to lead Gilbane’s growing global design-build program
PROVIDENCE, RI —
Gilbane Building Company appointed jennifer macks as Vice President and Director of Design-Build. In this newly created role, she will lead Gilbane’s growing design-build program, working in partnership with project teams across the company to deliver a seamless project experience for Gilbane customers, from concept to completion. construction. She will also lead the expansion of Gilbane’s prefabrication and modular construction capabilities, working on all delivery models.
After leading Gilbane’s in-house design-build initiative for the past two years, Macks and his team implemented streamlined procedures for delivering design-build projects and began developing a specialized training program in design-build for employees. Since inception of this initiative in 2020, Gilbane has increased its volume of design-build work by 23%. In his new role, Macks will build on that momentum. She will continue to develop and implement design-build processes based on best practices, as well as support the delivery of successful projects.

Macks has extensive experience in the construction industry, having completed projects worth nearly $2 billion over his 28-year career. She has spent her career in a variety of roles ranging from operations to business development, leveraging Lean principles to deliver added value to clients. Additionally, she spent 20 of those years doing design-build work in the education, healthcare, and federal government sectors.
Macks currently supports a variety of activities and projects within the company, including the renovation of the William H. Gray III 30th Street station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a respected expert, speaking at the 2020 Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) conference on “Design Building a Dream Team”, as well as the 2021 DBIA conference on “Leveraging Public-Private Partnerships for Accelerated Delivery from kindergarten to 12th grade. ”
“I’ve worked on design-build projects for over 20 years and through that experience I’ve learned the importance of building strong teams, with the right tools, to promote collaboration and excellence in design,” said Jennifer Macks, Vice President and Director of Design-Build. “My goal is to drive training and process improvement in these areas to provide the best customer experience, from design to construction. I am excited to take on this new challenge and to forge more partnerships with our design partners and our businesses to promote a unique team environment that generates value for our customers.
Macks will be based in Austin, TX, managing operations from the Austin office, with frequent travel to Gilbane offices across the country. She earned a Masters of Business Administration from Wayne State University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. She is a Professional Engineer, DBIA Designated Professional and LEED Accredited Professional.
