Beaumont Library Begins Redesign Work with Architect and Seeks Public Comment at March 20 Meeting | Community

On March 15, the Beaumont Library submitted an online application through the California State Library’s “Building Forward” library infrastructure grant program. $10,000,000 is requested to help fund a renovation and expansion program to modernize library facilities to better serve a growing population.

The Beaumont Library shall match such prize with a minimum of $5,000,000.

The entire project is expected to cost $18,500,000 upon completion.

The library continues to work with architects PJHM and Engberg Anderson who completed a plan in 2014. This design is currently being updated with a size reduction to the low range of 30,000 square feet (see diagrams).

Engberg Anderson’s architect, Alexandra Ramsey, will begin the redesign process on March 28-29 by meeting with the director, various groups of staff and the library’s steering committee.

Beaumont Town Manager Todd Parton, former library board member and longtime community resident Steve Perry and school board member Shawn Mitchell have agreed to serve on the steering committee to overseeing final design work with Library Board Chair Margaret Coleman and Principal Luren Dickinson. .

A public forum is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 in the Library’s Community Room.

At this “Town Hall” meeting, Ramsey will present slides illustrating general trends in library design, then focus on the existing library, asking those in attendance for their thoughts on the current installation.

The framework for this hour-long session is “Keep, Launch, Create”. It will give library users a chance to make their voices heard by helping to identify the spaces and services they consider to be “must have” for the library, as well as determining which services are no longer effective or necessary. The information from this meeting will be used as part of the redesign.

The Beaumont Library, a special California district independent of city and county government, provides library services in Beaumont and Cherry Valley.
