Architect Cooper Carry and aquatic designer Water Technology Inc. began programming, design and engineering for the new Cherokee County Aquatic Complex in late 2010. The new facility opened in May 2013 to serve area swim clubs, families, high school teams and neighborhood swim teams. through a full range of aquatic programs including competitive and recreational swimming, learn-to-swim classes, aquatic exercise classes, aquatherapy and scuba diving.
The indoor facility includes a 50-meter competition pool that can accommodate 750 spectators, a 25-meter recreational pool and indoor classrooms. The 18,000 square foot outdoor recreation area features a zero depth recreational pool, water play area, slides, and plenty of room for lounging.
The aesthetic design features an explosion of primary colors. Visitors’ eyes are drawn to the vivid reds, blues, greens, and yellows creating an oasis-like feel in contrast to the property’s natural surroundings. The slides and play elements stand out, and the outdoor beach theme catches the attention of swimmers and encourages them to play.
