The new JSY5000-H valve manifold from SMC Corporation is designed for the food and beverage industry. It features a smooth surface, large radii, and is free of crevices and contamination traps to make the cleaning process faster and more efficient.
This IP69K rated valve differentiates itself in the market with its high flow rate, low power consumption and IO-Link point-to-point communication capability – bringing a new level of control to production in wet process areas subject to high pressure CIP and decontamination.
The new series will be showcased at this year’s AUSPACK 2022 show, which according to Paul Grantham, Global Account Manager for SMC Corporation ANZ, is the perfect platform to officially launch this product.
“There are many prerequisites for the adoption of automation for such demanding industrial sectors as these,” he said. “These include an IP69K ingress rating, FDA-approved external materials, NSF-H1 food-grade grease, and a clean surface design to prevent buildup of solvents and washing-up liquids while ensuring that the products are not introduced to hazardous contaminants.”
However, modern food processing plants must also meet various performance requirements to stand out in a competitive global market.
“For example, a valve with a large flow rate will increase the number of cycles, while reducing energy consumption, which will lower energy bills,” Grantham said.
Wide range of applications
All types of machines and systems should benefit from the five-port SMC JSY5000-H, including those in production, filling and packaging lines, as Grantham explains.
“The JSY5000-H not only offers power consumption as low as 0.1W (thanks to an energy-saving circuit), but also a large flow rate of 1600 l/min – all from a lightweight and compact dimensional envelope,” he said. “This capability contrasts with many existing high-flow valves that require more power and space, both of which are weak points for foodservice facilities.”
Another problem is that of communications.
Many food and beverage establishments still rely on electrically complex solutions with excessive wiring that provide insufficient data to improve the level of control and performance of the application.
“Once again, the new SMC JSY5000-H confines this problem to the history books by offering IO-Link point-to-point communication, which saves money through reduced installation and configuration time, as well as less wiring, connectors and ancillary equipment,” Grantham said.
“Most notably, however, IO-Link communication allows access to all digital values of the valve, as well as remote control of industrial networks (users can adjust and check parameters from anywhere). In turn, factories benefit from better application control, more valuable data, and on-board product diagnostics.
Ready to use
This economical and easy to clean manifold (also available as a single valve) is completely safe for use in food production and processing areas, including those where an aggressive cleaning process is used. All metal parts of the valve are made of 316 stainless steel, providing superior anti-corrosion performance.
Grantham adds that plants with valves installed away from their equipment or even inside cabinets are likely to suffer from difficult maintenance, poor equipment control and higher air line expenses. .
“However, with the SMC JSY5000-H, it is possible to eliminate all these problems,” he said. “This new advanced valve manifold can operate near food and beverage processing operations, helping to push performance and control to new levels.”
