Marriott International is piloting AI solutions to streamline hotel design process for future properties in Asia-Pacific

Planned for Marriott’s select service brands to provide owners with exclusive cutting-edge tools that reduce design time and costs by more than 50% on average

HONG KONG, March. 2, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) is reinventing the way hotels in its Select Service brand portfolio are designed and built using a suite of proprietary solutions. A first to pilot in Asia Pacific, Marriott’s end-to-end one-stop-shop solution is part of the latest design package that includes the use of artificial intelligence leveraging the Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform. With Marriott International offering the latter solution, the design process for owners will be more efficient with increased speed to market while maintaining cost control.

Marriott International streamlines its design process with AI solutions for its selected service brands in Asia Pacific. Moxy Osaka Shin Umeda is one such hotel that has successfully used Marrott’s proprietary BIM platform.

“Marriott International’s new end-to-end design solutions are a world first in our industry, and we’re excited to bring it to our owners in the Asia Pacific Region. The current set of solutions will deliver greater profitability, consistent quality and faster delivery times for every new Marriott International property designed from the ground up.,” noted Michael wang, Senior Continent Manager, Global Design, Asia Pacific.

Streamline the design process

Leveraging the Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform, the new suite of solutions provides intelligent cloud and 3D reference throughout a project’s lifecycle, from initial planning to design development. through construction and operations. BIM prototypes can create an entire virtual hotel in a matter of days, instead of the months normally required. The flexibility of BIM means that Marriott International’s rigorous design guidelines are built right into the platform. Room customizations such as room sizes and furniture layout are easily changed, with the rest of the design process automatically recalibrated to incorporate any kind of changes, dramatically improving coordination and workflow among the many stakeholders involved. in the design process. With this, Marriott offers a unique solution so that owners can have increased confidence that the Marriott brand style guides and specifications are maintained throughout the process.

“The implementation of AI technology once again demonstrates our continued commitment to assist and support our business partners in creating value and speed to market,” said Ron harrison, responsible for global design, Marriott International. “It delivers value to owners while maintaining quality and is a central part of our broader technology strategy as part of Marriott’s global design process. “

Enhanced proprietary experiences with high-resolution 3D tours

Using BIM technology and prototyping, high-resolution 3D virtual reality environments can be created faster than any other technology currently available. Another attractive benefit of using BIM technology is a high experience, with virtual “fly-by” tours of the proposed hotel, with visualizations of each design element presented in detail. This allows hotel owners to see their entire hotel in real time without having to wait for manual design renderings or construction.

One of the fastest growing segments of Marriott’s brand portfolio, the seven Select service brands offer travelers the quality of international brands at moderate prices. These innovative and pioneering brands are characterized by their affordability and hassle-free service. Selected service marks include Fairfield by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Four points by Sheraton, Up, Moxy, Element and AC Hotels. In 2020 alone, more than 50% of new hotel deals signed were in the selected service brands category, underscoring the strong demand from owners for this segment which caters to mid-range consumers. The introduction of Marriott’s latest proprietary solution is expected to continue to generate interest in this category of brands given the shorter design project cycles.

“Marriott’s proprietary BIM design package is well advanced,” said Ralph frehner, Vice President, Asia-Pacific Design Development Operations, Marriott International. “To date, our Moxy brand BIM design solutions for bedrooms and public spaces including the kitchen are 100% completed and ready to use for homeowners. Our Courtyard and Fairfield BIM solutions for rooms are over 70% ready, and we expect solutions from other Select Service brands to be finalized by 2021. “
