IIT Kanpur has developed a personalized Master of Design (MDes) program for officers of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB). This two-year graduate program will help OFB officers learn the art and science of designing complex weapon systems. Such an initiative is closely aligned with Aatma-Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan in the field of weapons in particular, and defense technologies and products in general, a press release from the institute said.
This is the first such university program in India, and possibly in all of Asia, adds the institute. The personalized Master of Design program related to the field of weapon design will not only be relevant for many military equipment factories involved in the production of sophisticated weapon systems, but also for private sector companies that are venture into the field of weapon systems.
In view of the operationalization of this program, the two organizations, namely the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) Kolkata, will conclude a memorandum of understanding on September 3, 2021. Such a joint initiative will institutionalize the links between two organizations, and will also pave the way for the joint development of various technologies directly relevant to OFB.
